SolarTerra LLC will design your custom home to look and "feel" the way you want it to. We will also design it to be energy-efficient, durable, comfortable and healthy for you and your family. We use passive solar design principles, "green" building materials and proven "building science" construction details to ensure your home meets your requirements. You might be surprised that passive solar design doesn't necessarily increase the construction costs of your home and that your home can be as contemporary or as unique as you want it to be.
Architectural & Systems Design
   Our homes are solar-efficient and resource-efficient in addition to being energy-efficient. We use site orientation, roof overhangs, natural ventilation and balance direct solar glazing with interior thermal mass for efficient winter heating and summer cooling. We use regionally produced and environmentally friendly building products whenever possible and can incorporate solar electricity and solar hot-water systems into the overall design aesthetics of a home. We design custom homes for urban, residential and off-grid locations. Each location offers different design considerations with off-grid being the most challenging and our specialty. Off-grid homes are often built where electricity, sewer, water, phone lines and cable TV are not available or not easily accessible. In addition, remote vacation homes require more security, protection from winter freezing and quicker heating since they can be vacant for long periods. If you want or need them in your home, we design and work with local partners to install solar PV, solar water heating, rainwater catchment, graywater and alternative septic systems. We work with clients throughout the design, permit approval and construction phases of a project. By staying engaged during the construction phases, SolarTerra LLC can monitor that the home is built using "building science" construction techniques and will meet the intended design and performance criteria. After a home is completed, SolarTerra LLC can assist our clients in maintaining the sustainable systems and products used in their home. SolarTerra LLC designs homes to perform specifically in the Northern Arizona region and exceed the Coconino County Sustainable Building Program Certification criteria.
